AirPrint Compatibility

• Supported Devices:

  • Mac computers: macOS 10.7 or later

  • iOS devices: iOS 4.2 or later (including iPhone 3GS and later, iPad, iPod Touch 3rd generation and later)

• Compatible Apps:

  • Mac computers: All applications that support the print function

USB Printing Compatibility

• Supported Devices: Mac computers, Windows computers.

• System Requirements: No additional version restrictions, only requiring the device to support USB peripheral recognition.

Step 3: Connect and set up the printer

Follow one of the methods below to connect your printer.

Method 1: Wireless printing using AirPrint

1. Preparation

   • Turn on the printer and ensure it is in a ready state (paper tray has paper, no error messages).

2. Connect to the network

   • Connect both the printer and your Apple device to the same wireless network subnet.

     • Note: Mac computers can be connected via Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection.

   • After turning on the printer, wait a few minutes for it to complete network adaptation.

3. Add the printer

   • For Mac computers: You need to manually add the AirPrint printer.

   • For iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches: The system will automatically recognize the printer; no manual addition is required.

Method 2: Direct printing using USB

1. Preparation

   • Turn on the printer and ensure it is in a ready state.

2. Make the physical connection

   • Connect the Y486AP printer directly to your computer using a USB cable.

3. Automatic installation

   • Your device will automatically recognize the printer, complete driver matching and addition, with no need to manually install software.

4. Start printing

   • After successful addition, you can select the printer in the print options to start printing.

Step 4: Understand limitations and requirements

AirPrint Limitations

• Supports 802.11 wireless networks only; does not support Bluetooth or 3G connections.

• Incompatible with OS X 10.6 and earlier systems.

• iOS devices must meet iOS 4.2 or later, and Mac computers must meet macOS 10.7 or later.

USB Printing Limitations

• Only supports direct connection between the printer and the device; does not support shared printing via a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule.

• No additional system version restrictions, only requiring the device to support USB peripheral recognition.
